Is Solar Right for You?

Siting

Your house might be a good candidate for a solar electric system if your roof has these attributes:

• Faces west

• Shade free

• Faces south

Electric Bills

PG&E will not actually pay for the electricity you generate (unlike in Germany, where homeowners are paid $.49 per kWh for the electricity they generate). However, PG&E will cancel out all the charges for the electricity you have produced and not charge you for your usage. Therefore, the largest benefit you can receive is as much electricity as you use in a year. PG&E does this “settling the bill” once a year. This is why our first step in working with you is to examine your electric bills to determine your needs.

System Sizing

The first step in deciding on a system size is examining your electric bills to see how much electricity you actually use.

We then examine your roof to see how large of a system it can support. The two largest factors in determining this is: 1) the space you have that is facing the same aspect (south to west facing), and 2) how much of that space is shaded during peak hours.

Berkeley Solar Electric Systems can help you to develop a system that will produce the electricity that you are looking for. A typical home system’s capacity is somewhere between 2 and 2.5 kW.
